I’ve been following motorsports, in one form or another, for as long as I can remember. I’ve also enjoyed taking pictures since an early age. Unfortunately, it took until late 2008 for me to realize I should try to combine these two hobbies. That’s when I purchased a DSLR . The rest as they say is history.

Admittedly, I didn’t know much about how to use my camera when I took it to the first race of the 2009 season, the Rolex 24 at Daytona. After uploading a couple of shots of the race to flickr, I started getting positive feedback from other motorsports fans. Actually, one of the first comments on my race pictures was from RaceRevo’s Anas Zakaria.
I noticed my panning shots received the most recognition, so I’ve concentrated on improving those types of shots.
These are my top 5 shots.

Flying Lizard Porsche 911 GT3 RSR at the 2009 Acura Sports Car Challenge of St. Petersburg. Taken as the #44 Flying Lizard Porsche, driven by Seth Neiman and Darren Law, enters turn 5 at St. Pete. The car ended up finishing 5th in class. Taking pictures at St. Pete is challenging because there are so few areas for spectators to watch. This location is probably my favorite but there are still two catch fences between you and the track.

Brumos Racing Porsche Riley at the 2010 Rolex 24 at Daytona. The Brumos Porsche, driven by David Donohue, Darren Law, Butch Leitzinger, Raphael Matos and Hurley Haywood, retired on Sunday due to blown engine. This was the last race for legendary driver, Hurley Haywood, who has had numerous victories at Le Mans, Sebring and Daytona.

Aston Martin Lola B09/60 at the 2010 ALMS Winter Testing at Sebring. Probably one of the best sounding cars I’ve ever heard (although I just wish it was just a little bit louder). The Gulf livery makes it look fantastic too. I like this shot because there aren’t many distractions in the background since so few people are allowed into the paddock during Winter Testing.

Audi Sport Team Joest Audi R15 TDI and Peugeot 908 HDi FAP at the 2009 Petit Le Mans. Petit Le Mans is normally a 10 hour race, lasting well into the evening. Unfortunately, the week leading up to the race, the Atlanta, Georgia area experienced a “100-year flood” with massive amounts of rainfall. It had been fairly dry for the first 6 hours of Petit, but then the rains returned and the officials had no other options than to call the race. This Audi R15 finished 4th overall. I edited this shot to make it similar to the promotional artwork of the Truth in 24 documentary.

Justin Wilson in the Dan Coyne Racing Honda Dallara IndyCar at the 2009 St. Pete Grand Prix. Justin Wilson led a majority of the Grand Prix but ended up in 3rd position overall. I’m not a huge fan of IndyCar but I like how this picture turned out.
I’m excited to join RaceRevo team and I look forward to sharing my trackside experiences. Stay tuned with me as I bring you more motorsports culture from the other side of the world.
