WRC 2010 Round 5 – Rally New Zealand : Day 2

Sebastien Loeb (above) staged a brilliant comeback to finish Day 2 in second place after trailing by more than a minute behind the leader at the end of Day 1. Loeb’s quests for a 4th consecutive wins remains intact, all he needs to do is catch Sebastien Ogier (below), the new leader at the end of Day 2. Only 5.3 seconds separates the two Sebastiens.

Behind them in 3rd is Jari-Matti Latvala and Dani Sordo in 4th. Day 1 leader Petter Solberg slipped down the pecking order after struggling for pace, after having to start first on the road. Mikko Hirvonen is in 6th place after he spun at the end of the New Franklin stage, and very lucky to avoid any damages to his car. When Day 3 resumes tomorrow, Loeb remains the firm favourite to win this year’s Rally New Zealand and extends his lead in the driver’s championship standings.

Not a great day for Solberg after having to sweep the road on Day 2

Latvala is 33.2 seconds behind Ogier heading into Day 3
