Super GT 2010 Round 4 At Sepang – A First Look at the Super GT Machines

Here we go, Japan’s biggest and hottest racing series! The Super GT cars finally arrived at the Sepang International Circuit for the 4th round of the 2010 season. This year will be the 10th anniversary of the event being held in Malaysia.

No track action yet on Thursday, as the teams unloaded the cars and tools into their designated pit garage.

The heart of the GT-R, the 490hp VK45DE. In race trim, the Super GT VK45DE produces 490 hp and 52 kg·m (380 ft·lbf) of torque. The engine idles at around 3500 RPM and is restricted to the above specified power output. Without such restrictions, the engine is reputedly capable of producing nearly 790 hp. Nismo reasons that by using the engine, they eliminate turbo-lag, save weight and generally prefer the torque curve of the atmospheric V8.
Next its time to set up the car, as pit crews started their race weekend way earlier then the drivers. This is the backbone of the team, without them there’s no way the cars would be ready for the race
