Super GT Round 6 – ARTA HSV-010 Clinches Pole Position with a Rookie at the Wheel

The ARTA HSV-010 secured its 1st pole position in 2010.
Takashi Kobayashi made a sensational Super GT debut after he clinched pole position in the GT500 Class at the wheel of the ARTA HSV-010. The All Japan F3 driver’s time of 1’55.237 was faster than what his teammate Ralph Firman and Yuji Ide managed to set earlier, and is even more impressive considering the limited amount of time he has to acclimatise with the Honda HSV-010.
As expected, the battle for pole position was between the ARTA HSV-010 and the MOTUL AUTECH GT-R. Benoit Treluyer registered a 1’55.411 for the MOTUL AUTECH GT-R to take 2nd place on the grid for tomorrow’s race. HSV-010 proved to be the fastest car around the Suzuka Circuit, taking 1st, 3rd, 4th and 5th position with the RAYBRIG HSV-010 in 3rd, followed by the EPSON HSV-010 and the KEIHIN HSV-010. The fastest Lexus was the DENSO DUNLOP SARD SC430 in 6th position.

The one to watch. The MOTUL AUTECH GT-R combination of Satoshi Motoyama and Benoit Treluyer.
All the championship contenders qualified at the lower half of the grid, the result of carrying a heavier weight penalty. Championship leader in the driver’s standing Daisuke Ito and Bjorn Wirdheim qualified in 10th in the ENEOS SC430, while the Weider HSV-010 of Takashi Kogure and Loic Duval, 2nd in the driver’s standing qualified in 8th place.
PETRONAS TOM’S SC430 duo of Juichi Wakisaka and Andre Lotterer qualified way back in 11th place, juat ahead of another championship contender, the CALSONIC IMPUL GT-R of Tsugio Matsuda and Ronnie Quintarelli.

In the GT300 Class, CINE CITTA’ TAISAN PORSCHE (above) clinched their 1st pole position of the 2010 season when Shogo Mitsuyama registered a time of 2’07.498, a second faster than 2nd place COROLLA Axio apr GT. The ARTA Garaiya will start the race in 3rd place on the grid.
Tomorrow’s race will be a captivating battle between the favourite, the ARTA HSV-010 and the MOTUL AUTECH GT-R. It will be a long 700 km race, and anything can happen between the green light and the chequered flag.
