MotoGP Round 12 at Misano – Pedrosa Qualifies on Pole

Dani Pedrosa’s consistent form of late continued into qualifying on Saturday at Misano as the Spanish rider took pole position for the Gran Premio Aperol di San Marino e Riviera di Rimini with another impressive display.

Pedrosa was involved in a close fight for pole position with rival and Championship leader Jorge Lorenzo, and went one better than achieving his aim of just getting onto the front row.

Fiat Yamaha Team rider Lorenzo once again parked his M1 on the front row of the grid, keeping his 100% record for qualifying this season. The championship leader is confident that he has the race pace to run at the front tomorrow and he will be looking to make it onto the podium once again.

Casey Stoner of Ducati Marlboro Team completed the front row on 3rd spot. He had set the fastest lap of qualifying after 20 minutes before he crashed out, but was not discouraged by the fall and went back out to finish the session.

Reigning world champion Valentino Rossi missed out on the front row by just seven hundredths of a second and will start his home race from fourth.

Today’s qualifying was held in very warm conditions as air temperatures got up to 26ºC and the track heated up to 42ºC.

Tomorrow’s race is the 12th round of the season and will see the rest of the field head off for 28 laps of action at 14.00hrs local time (12.00hrs GMT).
