‘MotoGP’

GP Aperol di San Marino e Riviera di Rimini race was won by Spaniard Dani Pedrosa, ahead of World Championship leader Jorge Lorenzo and Valentino Rossi. Sadly the race was overshadowed by tragic events in the Moto2 race earlier in the day. Japanese rider Shoya Tomizawa had passed away following an accident that involved two other riders.

Dani Pedrosa’s consistent form of late continued into qualifying on Saturday at Misano as the Spanish rider took pole position for the Gran Premio Aperol di San Marino e Riviera di Rimini with another impressive display.

Dani Pedrosa never scored more than 2 wins in a season, but it all changed when he crossed the finish line first to take his 3rd win of the season. Pedrosa made a great start off the line from the 2nd row of the grid, getting ahead of championship rival Jorge Lorenzo into the first turn.

It was a last gasp effort from Ben Spies, as he secures his first ever MotoGP pole position in front of the home crowd at Indianapolis. His best time of 1’40.105, recorded on his 26th of 28 laps, came as a surprise as the earlier practice session was dominated by Casey Stoner, ahead of Repsol Honda pair Dani Pedrosa and Andrea Dovizioso and Jorge Lorenzo in 4th.

Reigning world champion Valentino Rossi announced a week ago that he will be switching rides for 2011 season to Ducati. The 31 year-old will complete an Italian combo with the Bologna factory next season after agreeing on a two-year deal. And replacing the 9-time world champion at Yamaha is American Ben Spies, who won the World Superbike Championship with Yamaha back in 2009. The 26-year-old is currently the leading rookie and the top satellite rider in this year’s MotoGP, lying seventh in the championship.

Jorge Lorenzo took an impressive seventh win of the season in Brno with a clinical performance that saw him led from the first lap to the chequered flag. In doing so he becomes only the third premier-class rider in history to finish in the top two at the opening ten races of the season.

Dani Pedrosa delivered his third pole of the season after an action-packed qualifying session. The Spaniard clocked his best lap time of 1.56.508s, just over three-tenths of a second clear over 2nd place man Ben Spies of Tech 3 Yamaha.

Fiat Yamaha’s Jorge Lorenzo started the second half of the season in fine style today, finishing first in the first free practice session at Brno. The practice session was held in overcast conditions and most riders were forced to end the session early when light rain started to spot towards the end.
